Summary: | 碩士 === 高雄醫學大學 === 口腔衛生學系碩士在職專班 === 103 === Objectives:
This in vitro study was to evaluate the effectiveness of bleaching agent and LED light using different bleaching time for the removal of extrinsic tooth stains.
Materials and methods:
Freshly extracted 100 human teeth were stained with coffee solution for 1 week. Each group was divided into 5 sub-group of 20 teeth. Group A: 6% HP/5 min. without LED light activation, Group B: 6%HP/20 min. without LED light activation, Group C: 6%HP/5 min. with LED light activation, Group D: 6% HP/10 min. with LED light activation, Group E: 6% HP/ 20 min. with LED light activation. The bleaching procedure was repeated 2 times. Spectrophotometer measurements of the tooth shades were performed for each specimen before and after staining and bleaching. The data were submitted to one-way ANOVA to compare the values of before staining and ANCOVA to compare the values of after staining and bleaching.
Results:
No significant differences were found before tooth staining by ANOVA. No significant differences were found after tooth staining by ANCOVA. All groups were significant differences in shade change after the first and second bleaching session. LED light activation showed higher shade changes than no light activation both in the 5 min. or 20 min. bleaching time. The most obvious shade changes can be found in the group of 20 min. bleaching time with LED light activation.
Conclusions:
The hydrogen peroxide (6%) via LED light activation has a greater capability for effective tooth bleaching than without LED light activation. The hydrogen peroxide (6%) plus LED light activation could achieve the best tooth shade changes in the 20 min. group.
