Therefore, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education is actively promoting off-campus internship-related programs. In addition, schools are successively establishing joint industry collaborations to cultivate practical concepts and competence of students and to provide opportunities for advanced work experience. Such collaborations thereby instill a positive work attitude, increase practical education resources and student employment opportunities, develop job-ready graduates to fulfill human resource demands in the industry, and increase national competitiveness. However, numerous research data have shown that interns express a limited intent to stay, despite the intentions of enterprises to retain them. Therefore, this study investigated the influence of students’ participation in off-campus internships on their perceptions of internship programs and employability, job satisfaction at internships, and willingness to stay. For this study, we recruited students who participated in off-campus internship programs from 14 departments of four colleges at Hsing Wu University in Northern Taiwan as participants of a questionnaire survey. A total of 470 questionnaires were distributed and 441 valid questionnaires were recovered. This study adopts the survey questionnaire method and uses SPSS17.0 and AMOS 18.0 software to conduct the following analyses: descriptive analysis, reliability analysis, validity analysis, correlation analysis, independent t test, ANOVA analysis, and SEM analysis. The following results were obtained: (a) Off-campus internship program perception had a positive effect on employment perception and on internship job satisfaction. (b) Employment perception had a positive effect on internship job satisfaction and on intention to stay. (c) Internship job satisfaction had a positive effect on intention to stay. In conclusion, if schools intend to enhance the effectiveness of internship programs and students’ employment capacity, theoretical and practical courses should be planned and integrated to establish high-quality internship systems, strengthen teachers’ competency in counseling students, and cultivate students to become industry talent. To increase the intention of interns to stay working for the firm, firms should provide adequate encouragement and help the interns participate in education training and activities to mitigate the gap between full-time employees and interns and enable interns to quickly assimilate into the working environment. Furthermore, providing adequate and timely encouragement and acknowledgments can also enhance students’ satisfaction toward the job, thereby elevating their intention to stay working for the firm.
