碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 宗教學系碩士班 === 103 === In recent centuries, international volunteering has already formed a trend. A Taiwanese monk, Ven Hui-Li went to Malawi and established Amitofo Care Center aiming for nurturing the orphans. Because of his acts and vows touched so many people, many people went to Africa and followed the rank of the international volunteering work. It seems like a great deed but actually the volunteers experienced various kinds of situations. Even a fully-experienced elite could have been affected greatly by the impacts of the local environment and the personnel management. Therefore, the volunteer turnover rate becomes higher and the long-term presence of the volunteers is getting less. It is not easy for a volunteer to have a long-term service in an unfamiliar place, especially in Africa. Thus, this thesis is aiming at analysis such problem as a research question. The volunteers were selected for the research study. We carried out several interviews and group discussions in order to understand the volunteers’ background, service motivation, vision, goals and problem solve ability. Exam them by using different angles and then categorize problems, situations, mentality when facing the challenge and processing methods. From these problems, we can see how these volunteers overcome the predicament and if they find their life value. These questions are what the thesis is focusing on. The spirit of selfless dedication of volunteers and the most able to demonstrate precious life education. Anything that the volunteers encountered, whether it is good or bad, can become a valuable experience for them. Also from these case studies, we can find out proper solutions to the problems and allow the team and volunteers to grow together!
