The knowledge of rites was evolved from ‘Zhou Rites”, “Yi Rites” and “The Book of Rites” and improved by scholars from different dynasties. Owing to those updates to meet the needs in different times, locations and objectives, the rites today have reached a new phase. With the plan of Taiwan’s Ministry of The Interior in publishing “The Codes of Civil Rites”, “The Practices of Modern Civil Funerals”, and “The Draft of Modern Civil Wedding Ceremonies”, this seems to be the right moment to focus on this theme. There are three elements in the rites. The first part is “the meaning of the rites”, which illustrates why we need to adopt certain rituals in particular ceremonies; the second part is “ the substance of rites”, which explains how we should we do to conform with rites; and the last part is “the instruments of rites”, which entail what kinds of artifacts should be used in the ceremonies to accord with rites. Among the four rites associated with our lives, wedding ceremonies are the most essential while they partly serve the purpose of reproducing human offsprings. Funerals are the most solemn among the four of them. Regular festivals embrace joyful occasions, and celebrations are derived from dignified worship. In order to complete the rites in a successful way, the “processes”, the order of the rites, are particularly crucial. Therefore, the author will focus on “processes” as the topic of this essay. Based on field works and text review, this essay would explore the four parameters in the processes: “topics”, “procedures”, “ceremonies”, and “orders”. The author would like to thank Dr. Yun-xi Huang and rites experts across the nation for their encouragement and instructions ever since the author entered the graduate school of Religious Studies in Hsuan Chuang University. The author also would like to dedicate this essay to the government and civil segments for future references. HUANG,YUN-HSI 黃運喜 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 348 zh-TW |

碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 宗教學系碩士班 === 103 === Our country has been regarded as “A Country of Rites”. The knowledge of
rites was evolved from ‘Zhou Rites”, “Yi Rites” and “The Book of Rites” and
improved by scholars from different dynasties. Owing to those updates to meet
the needs in different times, locations and objectives, the rites today have
reached a new phase. With the plan of Taiwan’s Ministry of The Interior in
publishing “The Codes of Civil Rites”, “The Practices of Modern Civil
Funerals”, and “The Draft of Modern Civil Wedding Ceremonies”, this seems
to be the right moment to focus on this theme.
There are three elements in the rites. The first part is “the meaning of the
rites”, which illustrates why we need to adopt certain rituals in particular
ceremonies; the second part is “ the substance of rites”, which explains how we
should we do to conform with rites; and the last part is “the instruments of
rites”, which entail what kinds of artifacts should be used in the ceremonies to
accord with rites.
Among the four rites associated with our lives, wedding ceremonies are
the most essential while they partly serve the purpose of reproducing human
offsprings. Funerals are the most solemn among the four of them. Regular
festivals embrace joyful occasions, and celebrations are derived from dignified
worship.
In order to complete the rites in a successful way, the “processes”, the
order of the rites, are particularly crucial. Therefore, the author will focus on
“processes” as the topic of this essay. Based on field works and text review, this
essay would explore the four parameters in the processes: “topics”,
“procedures”, “ceremonies”, and “orders”.
The author would like to thank Dr. Yun-xi Huang and rites experts across
the nation for their encouragement and instructions ever since the author
entered the graduate school of Religious Studies in Hsuan Chuang University.
The author also would like to dedicate this essay to the government and civil
segments for future references.
