Summary: | 碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 應用外語學系碩士班 === 103 === This study focused on three morals, respect, responsibility, and care, to explore the effects of picture books instruction on children’s character development. Regarding to this action research, it took nine weeks to observe the behaviors of eighteen kindergarten children from an affiliated kindergarten of an elementary school in Chiayi County. The instructor, as well as the researcher, used picture books to proceed character instructional activities. By means of character assessment forms, behavior observation journals, instructional journals, worksheets, and some other related data, the analysis was completed mainly with qualitative research method, partially with quantitative research method. The results are as follows:
1. The picture books are attractive and even effective on children's
character development.
2. Instructing with picture books promotes children's performance in
respect, responsibility and care effectively.
3. After the instruction, the children have good performance in the
practice of respect, responsibility and care in their household life
and school life.
Finally, according to the above research results, the researcher provides the concrete suggestion about instruction, teaching material election, and counseling for teachers, education institutions, and future researchers.
