Summary: | 碩士 === 華梵大學 === 工業工程與經營資訊學系碩士班 === 103 === There is widespread usage of non-desktop computers(notebook computers and tablet computers) among students in Taiwan. More and more college students use non-desktop settings. It tends to cause them more musculoskeletal disorders than to the desktop users. The purpose of this study is to investigate the negative effects that tablet computers bring to the college students. This survey was conducted through the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) answered by college students who use tablet computers. The result assessed the prevalence of musculoskeletal discomfort, the percentage of regional musculoskeletal disorders and the preferred postures during computer operation. This survey also validated the risk factors of using tablet computers.
There were 102 college students including 62 males and 40 females answered the NMQ. After analyzing the collected data, it was found the prevalence of computer-related disorders reached 64.7% among those college students who use tablet computers. The rate among female was higher than male. The respondents might suffer from one or more disorders. Among the disorders neck injury is on the top rank
The percentage of regional musculoskeletal disorders are as follows: neck 77%, vision problem 76%, right shoulder 48%, right wrist 29%, left shoulder 26%, right elbow 21%, lower back 20%, upper back 9%. Through the Chi-square test on the basic data and the prevalence of the disorders, it is concluded that those musculoskeletal disorders are positively correlated with computer using posture, age, with or without stretching exercise, the duration of usage and using frequency per week. Furthermore, three of all variables had significant difference with regional musculoskeletal disorders. The results of positive association are as follows: First, between age and the disorders on vision, neck and right wrist; Second, between duration of usage and the disorders on right elbow and both wrists; Third, between using frequency per week and the disorders on neck, right shoulder, back, both elbows and right wrist. Therefore, all of the described three variables result in the discomfort of right wrist. On the other hand, poor posture such as supine, prone, putting on legs or holding the computer with a single hand is positively relevant to the musculoskeletal disorders as well. It is recommended to use a tablet computer on a desktop-like setting in order to reduce the musculoskeletal discomforts. Hence, further research on the computer using posture is a pretty vital issue.
