In his advocating for ‘utility music,’ music written to cater to the general public, Hindemith claims that music is meant to immediately engage the audience, allowing for interaction and serving a specific purpose. With harmonic series, he proposed a center-tone theory, which, along with Baroque and classical counterpoint techniques, dominates his creative works. This style is referred to as Neo-classicism by the following generations. The subject of this thesis is Hindemith’s Sonata for Trumpet and Piano. The first chapter is the introduction to the work, the second being Hindemith’s life and creative style.
