Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 音樂學系 === 103 === The Taiwanese musician Su-Ti Tan played an important role in promoting the development of Western music in early Taiwan. He studied music in Taiwan, Japan, and Canada. While serving as Principal of Tam-Kang High School, where he cultivated many promising talents, he not only attended to busy school affairs, but also found time to create piano works in a Taiwanese style. Although Su-Ti Tan’s compositions were not avant-garde, the fact that their titles and content are closely associated with Taiwan made him a pioneer among Taiwanese composers. This study consists of six chapters. The first chapter serves as preface, detailing the writer’s motivation, purpose, research methodology, and scope of the study. The second chapter describes the life of Su-Ti Tan: his family, school experience, living environment, changing societal conditions and their influence on his works, and the inspiration behind his creations. The third chapter discusses the writing style of Su-Ti tan and focuses on the works for piano solo from the standpoints of form, content, musical style, distinctive traits, and the features of his different stylistic periods. Chapter 4 will analyze Su-Ti Tan’s piano works, relating the works themselves and their titles to the inspiration behind them. Chapter 5 will discuss Su-Ti Tan’s own interpretation of his piano works, and the writer will present other vital interpretive keys. In conclusion, Chapter 6 will collate and analyze Su-Ti Tan’s piano works’ place in both domestic and foreign music history.
