To ensure food safety and a basic supply of food in the agricultural development areas, the sustainable agricultural development and conservation of agriculture areas need urgent attentions. From the past of rice over-producing to the current global climate change and the uncertainty of food supplies, there is a need to bring our fields to work again and protect the ecology system, in order to transform the pursue of maximum yield to focus on sustainability of the land. This research is focused on rice field areas around Tainan, Pingtung, and Hualien. Starting form rice production and sustainable use, this research used the System Approach for Land Use Sustainability (SALUS) method to construct related rules and indexes for land use and environment resources. Annual yields and income were also part of the basis for the assessment of the economic benefits and sustainability. All the data collected was also evaluated by using statistics in orders and hierarchical sorting method to set the indexes for the three areas. The analysis results showed that the sustainability of three subject areas was rising slowly each year, and it is a proof that the rice yields there are becoming sustainable. Hualien had the highest rate for sustainability, which was between the ranges of 0.5 to 0.8. The use of land and environment sustainability of Hualien was also higher. Tainan had the highest profit, and it reached 1.0 in 2011. On the separate scale, the eluviation of Pingtung had been rising significantly since 2010. Tainan had a higher CO2 footprint, which was over 7000kg/ha. Hualien had increasing emission of N2O. 周天穎 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 107 zh-TW
