It is used single chemical addition, sequential chemical addition, and different doses orderly to conduct the experiments. The test results showed that: the stiffness properties raised 29% and the folding endurance raised 133% through single chemical addition of sodium metasilicate; the stiffness properties raised 168% and the folding endurance raised 50% through added cationic starch. The experimental results showed that the sodium metasilicate and cationic starch improve of the physical properties of paper significant improves. Added sodium metasilicate then Followed by cationic starch, the stiffness properties raised 79% but 0% of folding endurance; in contrast, added cationic starch firstly and then added the sodium metasilicate, its stiffness properties raised 64% and the folding endurance is 17%. As a result, we know “added sodium metasilicate“ first is in superior to “added cationic starch“ first on the stiffness properties; however, the folding endurance shows opposite. After the wet end added to the sodium metasilicate, the stiffness of paper is higher than not added, and the more wet end added the stiffness is better. The folding endurance is raised to maxium 133% after the sodium metasilicate added wet end. When the stiffness of paper at 1%, it can be up to 168% maxium after the cationic starch added. But, as the added amount was decreased, and the folding endurance is over 1%, the folding endurance is flat(no change). When the sodium metasilicate mixed with the cationic starch, the more starch added the lower stiffness, but the folding endurance is not changed no matter which one is first used. Sodium metasilicate is mixed with the cationic starch, the stiffness and folding endurance is between the single added sodium metasilicate and cationic starch.
