Summary: | 碩士 === 中臺科技大學 === 文教事業經營研究所 === 103 === The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship among reading attitudes, family literacy environment and reading comprehension ability in junior high school students in Taichung City. A quantitative approach was used. The questionnaire“reading attitudes, family literacy environment and reading comprehension ability” was designed by the author for the purpose of the present study. The subjects were the public junior high school students in Taichung City. The data were collected by the stratified random sampling and from 1050 students who were in the public junior high schools of Taichung City.
The valid responses were 1048, and the usable response rate was 99.8%. After retrieving the questionnaires, the author deleted the questionnaires with the participants who were raised in single parent households or by grandparents. The total number of valid questionnaires, which are related to the research topic, are 771.
The obtained data were analyzed by using statistical methods which included mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, and multiple regression. The conclusions were as follows:
1.The current situation of junior high school students in Taichung City had good reading attitudes,in which the "reading preferences" and " Reading achievements and challenges " dimensions had better performance.
2.The current situation of junior high school students’ family literacy environment in Taichung City reached the middle and low level, in which the " parents reading habits" dimension had the highest performance.
3. The current situation of junior high school students’ reading comprehension ability. in Taichung City need to be strengthened.
4.There were significant differences between the background variables in gender of reading attitudes and family literacy environment in overall dimensions. There were no significant differences between the background variables in gender of reading comprehension ability.
5.There were significant differences between the background variables such as father’s education and mother’s education on students' reading attitudes, family literacy environment and reading comprehension ability of overall or partial dimensions.
6.Junior high school students’ reading attitudes and family literacy environment plainly are related proportionately to reading comprehension ability.
7.Reading attitudes of junior high school students,especially reading preferences, can be regarded as reference data of predicting their level of reading comprehension ability.
Based on the results of the study, some recommendations were proposed to the parenting education, educational administrations and other researchers as the future references.
