This study used questionnaires to collect data of porters of four hospitals, and got 124 valid questionnaires. Statistical methods included descriptive statistics, t test and analysis of variance. The results are as follows: most of hospital porters are old and the first three of the most important items for hospital porters to perform the real work in patient safety are enhancement of medication safety, improvement of tubes safety, and prevention of patients fall and reduction in the degree of injury. But in general cognition on patient safety, the first three of the most important items for hospital porters are promotion of the effectiveness of communication among health care personnel, implementation of infection control, and improvement of surgical safety. In general, scores of many items of patient safety in real work for hospital porters in medical center are significantly higher than other regional hospitals. This may be due to higher request to the hospital porters in medical center. And we found that the training hours for hospital porters in medical center were more than other regional hospitals. So, we suggest that higher request and more training hours for hospital porters should be able to enhance their emphasis on patient safety.
