As the traditional retaining wall construction entails high costs and causes an impact on the environment, alternatives have been explored to reduce cost, shorten the construction period, and afforest the hillsides, so as to minimize disasters and protect the environment. The new construction method introduced from Japan which is the steel slit retaining wall uses chains and stiffening for friction resistance and support resistance. Apart from the small deflection on the wall surface, safe structure and good seismic resistance of the steel slit retaining wall, it is more convenient in terms of material carrying and the construction property quality is better, which can also be backfilled by the field’s original soil. This paper analyzes and explores the four cases of construction sites in Taiwan. Its characteristic functions and application scope are listed as: (1) The cost of construction is large when the construction scale of the steel slit retaining wall is small, and inversely, it is small when the construction scale is large. (2) In construction cases, the construction area and construction period are in certain proportion. (3) Advantages of the steel slit retaining wall include having the cost not increasing greatly despite the increased area, and it needs no special tools, thus the construction method of the steel slit retaining wall tends to be very economical. (4) After the Typhoon Morakot, areas 113 Line 7K+780 and 8k+850 in Liugui District were selected to be constructed by steel slit retaining wall, and it is detected by photos that the main body of the traditional 133 Line 9k retaining wall has no special damage; therefore, it can be concluded that the steel slit retaining wall has better durability than that of the traditional retaining wall.
