Heart disease is closely associated with atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia. Lowering cholesterol can effectively reduce the incidence of symptoms of hyperlipidemia. Red mold rice (RMR) is a common health food for lowing serum cholesterol in Eastern Asia. NTU568, is a red mold rice product which is fermented with dioscorea, is called red mold dioscorea (RMD). This clinical trial is to evaluate hyperlipidemia by using RMD, 40 subjects were enrolled and divided into two groups (experimental group and placebo group). The criteria were total cholesterol over 180 mg/dl and triglyceride between 130-190 mg/dl, who were not taking lipid-lowering drugs (20 to 65 years old). Each subject took one capsule of RMD or placebo every day (0.5 g capsule) after the meal every day. The study has 2 weeks of run in period, 8 weeks of intervention period, and 4 weeks of follow-up period. At the week of 0, 2, 6, 10, 14, blood was collected and the status was recorded. Anthropometric measurements (body weight, body fat, blood pressure) and biochemical parameters, including triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), blood glucose, liver and kidney function, thyroid function, electrolytes, and urine were determined. Results showed that the experimental group had significant effect on lowering- cholesterol, Plasma cholesterol and LDL-C were significantly decreased 25.45 mg / dl (11.1%) and 31.44 mg / dl (20.5%) after 8 weeks of administration. This study confirmed that RMD showed positive effect on the regulation of blood lipids. Chin-Kun Wang 王進崑 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 92 zh-TW |
