Presbyopia tends to manifest itself around the age of 40 to 45 years, glasses is currently used to solve the problem of presbyopia .These can be in the forms of bifocal lenses, multifocal lenses and monofocal reading lenses. In Taiwan the forms of correction are multifocal lenses and monofocal lenses. Multifocal lenses are designed for simultaneous-image viewing. The biggest difference between multifocal and monofocal that is when viewing distant and near objects monofocal can not provide clear image at both distance and near, so two pairs of glasses with different prescription is prescribed for D and N. In the present study, single-focus lens with monovision fitting method is compared with multifocal lens. Although monovision fitting does not provide binocularity , it can address the needs of presbyopes to see near and distance with one pair of glass. Thus, the present study investigates and analyzes binocular distant VA, binocular near VA, distance contrast sensitivity, near clear range and stereopsis of presbyopic patient’s wearing the two forms of these two lens design. Questionnaires were also given to these patient’s to investigate these two lens design . Sixty participants are divided into three groups, (0 to + 3.00D, 0 to -3.00D and -3.00D to -6.00D) with 20 people per group. Subjects are assigned to wear multifocal glasses or monovision single vision glasses, after the subject''s suitability has been acknowledged. Frame selected were assisted by optometrist to assist the selection for. After proper fitting of lenses and frames the glasses for one switch to the other lens fitting mode for another month. Order of the wearing made is randomly assigned. After a week of wear, an email was sent to each participant to confirm the subject’s wearing the continuation of agreement . The experiment and inform of the requirements of research and testing, by all participants in the previous month by wearing progressive multifocal change to wear monofocal single vision lens, before a month may wear monofocal single vision lens change wearing progressive multifocal lenses. Our results show multifocal and monovision binocular distance and near log MAR VA ; near clear range are significantly differences P <0.05. In general multifocal and monovision almost was little difference. Although there are statistically significant differences, the differences are not large, when other factors such as different individual needs. Therefore monovision may still be a better choice for some presbyopic patients. Shyan-Tarng Chen 陳賢堂 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 72 zh-TW
