Summary: | 碩士 === 嘉南藥理大學 === 醫務管理系 === 103 === A cross-sectional study was conducted to explore the sleep quality, stress and chronotype of hospital nurses in southern Taiwan, and to determine personal variables-related change in the sleep quality, stress and morningness-eveningness character. Data were collected with structured questionnaire using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Morningness-Eveningness questionnaire (MEQ) and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). 211 valid questionnaires were collected. PSQI score was 6.78. 62.1% nurses were poor sleepers (PSQI≧5). Marital status﹐different children number and work unit showed differences in sleep efficiency. There were significant differences in sleep latency and sleep disturbance for work unit and age. On-job Training Program and work units of the nurses affected their daytime alertness and activity. Marital status and On-job Training Program affected their sleep quality.
PSS score was 30.79. Nurses in On-job Training program, as well as the administrative work had higher stress level. There was a significant correlation between chronotype and age, work experience, marital status, children numbers, and work unit. The logistic regression analysis showed that the most important predictive factor for sleep quality was chronotype.
Our study provided references for medical authorities and shift-working nurses in order to reduce their pressure level, enhance sleep quality, and ensure the safety of patient care, achieving the goal to benefit all the three hands: patients, hospitals, and medical staffs.
