The method adopted in this study was quasi-experimental method, “one-group pretest-posttest design”, targeting at 29 students including 15 boys and 14 girls in a class of grade 4 of a certain public elementary school in northern area of Taiwan with the abstract board game activity practiced in 24 lessons over 8 weeks. Tools used in this study included the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, abstract board games, feedback sheets from students, teaching journal and so on. The quantitative data were used in statistical analysis based on descriptive statistics, paired-sample t test, analysis of covariance, etc. The researcher made the following conclusions in light of the study purpose and the results: 1. The average scores of tasks including Fluency, Originality, Abstractness of Titles, Elaboration, Resistance to Premature Closure, Creative Potential, and Creativity Index in post-test are higher than those in pre-test after the practice of abstract board game, especially significant on Originality task and Creativity Index. 2. The effectiveness of promotion in creativity with abstract board game is irrelevant to the sex of student. 3. Most students were fond of and held a positive viewpoint toward the abstract board game. Finally, recommendations were made in accordance with the concluded results of this study for future teaching activities and reference of further research.
