This kind of problem is often affected by pollutant types, topography, meteorology, and other factors at each local station; which provokes the analysis on Taichung’s topographical and meteorological factors. This research adopts and selects the 2002-2013 EPA data from five monitoring stations in Taichung for analyzing the weather patterns; which applies the date of air quality episode days from Central Weather Bureau’s stations in Taichung and Wu-Qi for seeking the relevance. The results show that episode days, affected by local circulation and topographic effects, are quite relative to high-pressure recirculation by 21.2% and weak north-east monsoon by 18.4%; whose meteorological factors range from high temperatures, low wind speed, less cloudy (rain), to intensive sunlight Basin and small wind speed impede the emission of pollutants and cause the dense pollution over the stations; whose ozone (O3) pollution is related to environmental airflow at different times, and suspended particulate matters (PM10) is influenced by the local topography and wind speed impact. The above results identify of the close tie between episode days and the local circulation (sea-land breeze) with topographic effect in Taichung metropolis. The research proposes that the improvement of Taichung environment must rely on effective control of the total amount of poor pollutant index (O3 and PM10) in Taichung metropolis.
