Experiments tested the impact of distraction from different combinations of visual (GARMIN Edge 705), auditory sensory aids (Tradition/ Abstract/ Auditory Icon/ Speech ) on the subject’s ability to maintain peddling frequency while conducting eight different tasks. The results indicate that the traditional signal whether in a single auditory (T) or with visual aids (VT), which are the most affecting performance overview of traffic safety. The exclusion of the traditional signal, using other auditory signal or the integrated use of different sensory cues (e.g., auditory icon, abstract, speech) can decrease cognitive loading and the performance of auditory icon is the best, the second is speech. Auditory icon signal helped rider easy to understand the signal mean, and reduce the degree of rider distraction, thus helping maintain a high sensitivity to danger. Cycling performance was further improved through combining auditory icon and speech with vision cues for assistance in the riding. The implications of these findings and the need to integrate and manage complex on-bicycle rider information assistance devices information systems are discussed. C. I. Tsai C. Y.
