| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 成人及繼續教育研究所 === 103 === The purpose of the study is to discover the transformative progress during marital difficulties of the middle-aged empty nest couples from the perspective of transformative learning theory. It adopts the purposive sampling with snowball sampling to select the couples and the semi-structured interview to collect observable data for conducting the qualitative research. The life-painting activities were used as the intermediary to extract the topic of marital difficulties from the interviews. There were four couples invited as the samples.
The three topics which representing the marital difficulties of the middle-aged empty nest couples are as following:
1. Having quarrels and being in an impasse in marriage.
2. Failing to communicate and being not understood.
3. Watching closely and being restricted by each other.
After a few round of the interviews and life-painting activities, these marital difficulties have been transformed into “giving more tolerate and forgiving with wisdom,” “self-realization,” and “Releasing the shackles of marriage”. The analytical findings and discussions are concluded in the last section, and offer the suggestions for the related institutions and the authorities.
