Summary: | 碩士 === 元智大學 === 機械工程學系 === 102 === The paper analyzes the thermal performance for network switch systems under the condition of natural convection. The software ANSYS Fluent is used to examine the related fluid mechanics and heat transfer phenomena of the system. Many different ways have been investigated, without the change of the size and geometry of the network switch system, to reduce the maximum temperature of the system, such as the use of conductive bars, change of casing materials, inclusion of venting holes, etc. The associated costs of different improvements have also been considered in this research to find an optimal solution.
The results show that since the major mechanism of the system is passive cooling, it usually needs to conduct the waste heat to the outer large surface area in order to have better thermal performance. The inclusion of metal conductive bars can further decrease the maximum temperature of the system. However, the effect of venting holes on the casing on the maximum temperature is not obvious. It is also found that different configurations or manufacturing methods result in the change of cost of the system, which should also be considered in finding the optimal solution.
