We implement a 3D texture synthesis method which applies 2D exemplar texture to synthesis the solid texture. The generated solid texture can be applied to fill the interior of a 3D solid model directly or to serve as the input texture for rendering 3D surface meshes with solid effect using 3D texture mapping algorithms. In terms of rendering 3D meshes with solid effect, two cutting algorithms are designed for cutting the model in plane. It is utilized to inspect the interior structure of the 3D model generated in the proposed method. Experiment results show that execution time of the cutting operation is fast, and the quality of the filled 3D model is acceptable. The proposed method endows 3D surface meshes with solid effect in light memory requirement. It can be applied in simulating 3D solid objects in computer graphics applications, or utilized to design solid models to fit in 3D printing applications.
