We hope our life can be more intelligent in different environments, home appliances can support different functions to match the environment; and through selecting suitable intelligent systems we may create a safe, convenient, comfortable and eco-friendly living environment. The intelligent home appliances were provided because of this expectation.
According to the data of International Data Corporation (IDC), Android had 78.6 percent market share in smartphones shipped globally in 2013, and iOS had 15.2 percent market share; so we can conclude that the Android smartphones has occupied most people’s life. Android system on remote controlled intelligent home appliances is also becoming popular. With the enhancement of functions of intelligent home appliances, the potential loopholes of information security have become a springboard for hackers. Therefore, some information security companies which noticed this problem have provided antivirus software for intelligent home appliances in order to prevent information security problem.
This study has connected Android system and intelligent appliances to create remote controlled intelligent home appliances based on Arduino, XMPP protocol, and Android smartphone. For example, you can use your cellphone to control the air conditioner and a TV. Under this framework, this study aims to investigate techniques for possible security attacks and the corresponding defense mechanism. Experiments were conducted for possible security attacks directly on this system; for example, the controller reverses the control so as to attack the intelligent appliance. At the end, we discuss the corresponding defense mechanisms for these attacks so as to ensure the security of remote controlled intelligent home appliances.
The result of this study can be used for further research in security of smart home appliances.
