The consumer market in today’s world has entered a new era led by aesthetic economy and experience economy, in which consumers aspire after aesthetic and experience. The nature of craft is the display of beauty, and the field of crafts has become an essential part in the development of Cultural and Creative Industry. Recently, Taiwanese traditional craft industry has overcome the dark valleys of being eliminating. As the coming of an aesthetic era, the field of crafts has regained its attention among the mass, creating a new trend not only in Taiwan, but also around the globe. With the decline of the yield of metals and the deficiency of energy, the price of precious metal has been too high for most to purchase, urging people to turn to other non-precious metals as a replacement for the expensive gold and silver. In order to break through the hierarchy of metals, this thesis seek to manifest the value of non-precious metals by amelioration and designing, revealing the pure beauty of crafts and not just the texture. After getting a wholesome picture of the value factors of existing metallic crafts, this research select one of the factors—surface texture value—for further research. Through analyzing the adjective surveys, which focus on evaluating five different metallic textures, this research gains a result that metals such as tin, iron and stainless steel are praised for their hairline texture, while aluminum and copper are praised for their glossy texture value. Matte texture, however, receives the lowest appraisal in all metals’ surface texture values. Nevertheless, different textured metals have their different and unique values. If catering to consumers’ needs, non-precious metal can elevate its values, breaking the traditional limitation of textures. This research analyzes the common reception of different metals and different surface textures, providing a reference for further non-precious metal design. However, designing needs to take all things into consideration. Further research on the ways to improve the value of non-precious metal is needed. Ming-Chyuan Ho 何明泉 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 110 zh-TW
