Participants came from two classes selected out of 18 classes in one private junior high school located in Yunlin County. The participants were assigned into an experimental group and a control group. In this study, the participants from both groups participated a weekly 45-minute English training for ten weeks in the school. The experimental group received multimedia learning in a computer lab whereas the control group received audio CDs learning in a traditional classroom. The major findings of the study were as follows. Firstly, there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in listening proficiency after the intervention. Secondly, the experimental group outperformed the control group in their listening comprehension and their awareness of applying metacognitive listening strategies. Finally, the experimental group showed positive readiness on their attitude, experience and familiarity toward applying multimedia learning. This study suggests that multimedia can serve as a supplementary material for EFL language learners because they provide students a better chance to get involved in outside learning and it helps students in listening comprehension and metacognitive strategies use.
