Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 漢學應用研究所 === 102 === Victor H. Mair is one of America's important sinologists. His research of Bianwen and popular literature about Dunhuang has been systematically studied, and achieved remarkable results. However, There has not been any systematic research about Mair’s study. The aims of the essay is to organize the document of Mair’s research , to explain Mair’s system theory, and to provide a useful reference for Mair’s Dunhuang Studies. Mair’s Bianwen research is about the definition, classification, background, sources, performances, author and manuscripts of Bianwen(transformation texts). Mair collected a lot of material and tried to build his own Bianwen theory. He also made the cross-culture comparison between the East and West. Mair considers Bianwen is from India. He also pointed out the picture recitation of Bianwen performation is from intertainment of ancient India. The purposes of the essay is to understand and to evaluate Mair’s study contribution of Bianwen, and to provide the followers a possible diretion to continue their reserch.
