Because of the viscosity of the air, the air gap film was generated, and making the object floating on the working flat. So, it has almost no friction to provide a faster moving speed and accuracy.
In this paper, the aerostatic bearing design is based on the optimum design proposed by the Professor Ming-Fei Chen of National Changhua University of Education. Following the research, and manufacturing a protorype of the aerostatic bearing at the first, then testing some basic performance about that. Furthermore using the pneumatic proportional pressure valve and LabVIEW to construct an air gap closed-loop control system, which with a high precision laser displacement sensor to measure the air gap as a feedback signal, and using the PID controller to control the pneumatic proportional pressure valve supplying air pressure, to make the air gap controllable.
In addition, in this paper, we study mainly about aerostatic bearing with active control, with different load to the bearing, it will adjust self the air pressure supplying, when the bearing having a light load, then supplying a minimum of air pressure, which can maintain the control objective of a constant air gap, However when the bearing subject to greater load, the bearing will be converted into high pressure, to resist the external force, and also achieve the effect of active control, not only can display the performance, but also make the aerostatic bearing more economical.
