Low-density parity-check (LDPC) code has been demonstrated to almost approach the Shannon limit. LDPC decoding can fully realize the features of iterative decoding, thus has become a research interest in error correcting codes. This thesis focuses on the performance analysis of LDPC codes. We propose an enhanced min-sum algorithm (E-MSA) in order to improve the decoding performance of traditional min-sum algorithm (MSA). By using functional approximation to replace the logarithmic operations in sum-product algorithm (SPA) with additions and subtractions, E-MSA can dramatically reduce the computational complexity without sacrificing too much decoding performance. The proposed algorithm will be verified in the Digital Video Broadcasting-Satellite-Second Generation (DVB-S2) systems. To reduce the computation time required for decoding, we set the maximum number of iterations in E-MSA decoding algorithm to be 50. During the transferring processes for check nodes and variable nodes in the algorithm, a correction term will we be evaluated according to the appropriate conditions.
