This business goal mainly influences by inter-organizational efficiency and adaptability in supply chains. Efficiency emphasizes on the stable implementation and following a good structure to achieve services or products of high-quality and low-cost. Adaptability is focuses on finding or discovering new opportunities and skills to response to market change and customer needs. Accordingly, analyzing how preferences influence socio-technical systems, ownership, efficiency and adaptability among partners is an important issue in supply chains. This study presents a research model which comprises ten research hypotheses with seven constructs, including social system, technical system, social preference, technical preference, ownership, efficiency and adaptability. This study develops a conceptual model that ownership as a mediating construct to examine the interrelationship effects that affect efficiency and adaptability and these relationships. We analyze data collected from 302 of the top 2500 Taiwanese manufactory enterprises in 2012 listed in China Credit Information Service. The results of the empirical study suggest that the role played by preferences is critical in ensuring the inter-organizational efficiency and adaptability as it regulates the socio-technical systems in the process. The findings of the study provide practical insights in understanding how supply chain members should reexamine their preferences activities that would improve their social system and technical system and manage behavioral preferences, in order to enhance inter-organizational efficiency and adaptability for the supply chain as a whole.
