In this paper, we consider a type of key spare parts, and divide it into several classes depending machine types and production process. We provide a simulation approach to derive the plausible policies for each machines class and to obtain the reserved stock of each class on the condition of the lowest total inventory costs. Then, we compare our stock policies with traditional inventory policies. Finally, we analyze efficiency by increasing the number of production machines and the classes of production process. The results show that determining stock decisions of spare parts by considering machine relationship will effectively reduce total costs and increase system utilization, especially when high-level machines have higher failure rates.
