Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立陽明大學 === 國際衛生碩士學位學程 === 102 === Swaziland has one of the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence in the world which has contributed to most Swazi children to being left as orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). As WHO aims to “close the gap in a generation” to reach health equality, the Swazi government has begun to provide financial support for the OVC in their education since 2005. The goal of this study is to explore impacts of household structure on OVC’s schooling measured by consistent school attendance and the extent of impacts of household structure on consistent school attendance by individual and household characteristics shown to be affecting children’s educational attainment in previous studies. Using existing data from the Swaziland Multiple Cluster Survey 2010, a total of 5890 children aged 7 to 18 years were analyzed with multivariate logistic regression. This study found that OVCs were disadvantaged in consistently attending school, as compared to non-OVCs. Policy implications are discussed.
