The Effectiveness of Applying STAD-Cooperative Learning on Oral Reading Fluency of Industrial High School Students

碩士 === 文藻外語大學 === 外語文教事業發展研究所 === 102 === The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to explore the effectiveness of applying STAD-cooperative learning on oral reading fluency at an industrial hight school in Kaohsiung. 133 participants were all second year students; they were randomly chosen from four classes and placed in two groups; i.e., a control group and an experimental group. 70 participants in the control group were taught using traditional teaching method and 63 participants in the experimental group were instructed to apply STAD-cooperative learning method. During this six-week experiment, both groups practiced oral reading fluency for fifty minutes per week. All participants received pre- and post-tests conducted by two raters whose inter-rater reliability on accuracy was 0.82, rate was 0.99, the NAEP was 0.82 and WCPM was 0.96 respectively. Results of the study show that the participants in the experimental group performed statistically and significantly better than the participants in the control group on oral reading fluency in terms of accuracy, rate, and WCPM but NAEP. The results show that the application of STAD-cooperative learning method on oral reading fluency helps to improve students’ learning outcome.
