Summary: | 碩士 === 文藻外語大學 === 創意藝術產業研究所 === 102 === Based on the practical and multi-cultural spirits of the General Guidelines of Grade 1-9 Arts and Humanities Curriculum of Elementary and Junior High School Education, and the fact that the curriculum of junior high school music course in Taiwan has involved few aspects of daily life and little respect for different groups and cultures, this action research was conducted to explore the possibility of designing a pop music course of Arts and Humanities Learning Area for the 3rd year junior high school students, and to discuss the results of its implementation. A total of 39 3rd-year junior high school students from the school where the researcher has been teaching participated in this research, and the research was made from November 2013 to January 2014.
This research exploited Sydney Walker’s “big idea” to design a pop music course for students’ needs and interests. The curriculum of the course had three topics: songs of pop bands, like May Day and Soda Green, songs of pop male singers, like Jay Chao and Lee-Hom Wang, and songs of pop female singers, like Jolin Tsai and A-mei. The teaching activities for 10 continuous weeks included lectures on the styles and background information of the songs, playing and singing the songs, students’ group reports and performances. The implementation of the course was in the Fall semester of 102 School Year in Taiwan.
Curriculum evaluations were made for all the 10 course units of this research. Pre-tests and post-tests were made on students’ understanding of the styles and background information of the songs, and their performances, and the results showed that the students made progress in the above aspects. By analyzing the statistics from the students’ learning feedbacks, the researcher found that the students showed high motivation and devotion in the course and the result indicated that the students liked the pop music course very much.
The researcher has practiced the spirits of the Arts and Humanities Learning Area in this action research, and enhanced the multiplicity in arts and humanities courses. This research has also improved the researcher’s professional skills and knowledge in teaching music courses; what’s more, it has increased students’ understanding and appreciation for pop music.
