The underachieved graders are those whose midterm and final exam scores are under average. A learning project for a period of eight weeks is designed and carried out during every Tuesday and Friday morning study hall time. Before and after the introduction of computer-assisted learning, tests are conducted to evaluate the result. Data collection in this study is conducted through observing, interviewing, and document gathering, etc. Triangulation approach is used to analyze the collected data. Conclusions are summarized below: 1. Prior to the implementation of computer-assisted learning for second graders, it is desirable to guide the students with elementary computer courses, in conjunction with multi-sensory stimulation as well as appropriate interaction and feedback, to facilitate the effects of learning. 2. Computer-assisted learning does improve the learning effects about "Mandarin character", "Phonetic", "Radical" and "Phrase-making" for underachieved graders, in which the greatest progress is obtained on "Mandarin character" learning. 3. Computer-assisted learning does improve the learning concentration of underachieved students, whose interest in learning is also enhanced.
