Summary: | 碩士 === 台南應用科技大學 === 音樂系碩士班 === 102 === This study focuses on Romanticism composer Frédéric Chopin’s ballades No. 2 and No. 4. There are four chapters in this thesis: the first chapter is an introduction, the second chapter is literature review, the third chapter includes the analysis, interpretation and also the comparison between ballades No. 2 and No. 4, and the last chapter is the conclusion.
Besides analyzing formal structure of the two pieces, the introduction, theme, form and compositional technique of coda were also compared. The result of the comparison reveals that F. Chopin frequently used compound meters, contrast character of theme, recurring of introduction material, sequence and canon, technique of variation, special harmonic and tonality language, and brilliant coda in his ballades. These compositional skills also distinguish the difference between ballade No. 2 and ballade No. 4.
