For example, the mouse is used to control the browsing of 2D images and 3D objects, and now the touch screen is highly available and people are familiar to browse the digital content through touching the screen surface with their fingers. From clickinga single point on the screen to using different gestures for further browsing, multi-touch screen allows the user to interact with the digital content in a more intuitive manner. In addition to 2D images, there are more and more demands for browsing 3D objects in the digital content nowadays. For example, the user may browse the 3D object in respective angles, and the feeling of the shape, color, texture, etc. of the real object can be simulated. However, currently the browsing of 3D object mostly focuses on browsing the appearance with the control methods such as scaling, rotating, etc. The objective of the present research is to discuss the gestures of multi-touch for browsing the 3D object of a exploded view on a touch screen, including using the gestures to individually expand the product components, so as to review the detail of the 3D product components. In the present research, three scenarios are carried out for testing the operation of touch gestures with 3, 4 and 5 points, so as to contemplate the user preference of the gestures at different touch points. The task of testing is performed with different Control-Response ratio (C/R ratio) such as 1/1 and 1/2, and the performance is evaluated with several numeral metrics such as the subjective satisfaction, task duration, and the times of calibration, thereby observing the difference and performances at different C/R ratios. Through interviewing the user, the difficulties of using the touch gestures to control the product exploded view can be further understood, and feedbacks are collected. Finally, it is found that for a 23-inch screen, it is most preferred to use the thumbs and forefingers of both hands to perform a 4-point touch gestures, wherein the best preference is obtained in the group with the C/R ratio 1/1.
