碩士 === 大同大學 === 工業設計學系(所) === 102 === The poll performed in this research is to find out tablet users’ preference for the texture of different material and all kinds of surface finishing applied on tablet PC. In this research, we applied aluminum and plastic material with 6 different surfaces finishing to certain model tablet PC in the market for a change and did a survey on preference for tablets with new looks. Then we analyzed people’s preference for aluminum and plastic material with different surface finishing on tablet PC. Then created a poll and made the samples for the following research for prepared 12 different surfaces finishing for tablet back cover; mirror surface finish, shining surface finish, imitation aluminum finish, carbon fiber film finish, original Aluminum color finish, anode flat varnish finish, anode glossy finish and hairline finish.... to analysis the use of consumers’ preference and decision making. With the subject, 7” tablet itself, and 12 different texture back covers, we learned that consumers are more interested in the metal material back cover than the plastic ones. However, consumers’ preference varies because of the textures processed by different way on different material. Most poll takers prefer the aluminum alloy back cover for the tablet according to his/her taste by first impression. And among 6 surfaces finishing on plastic back cover, back cover with carbon fiber film finish is a lot more preferred than back cover with imitation aluminum finish. Here’s the preference comparison between aluminum alloy back cover and plastic back cover; the poll found that carbon fiber film is the most popular finish for tablet back cover of all 12 different finishing. So consumers’ preference for tablet appearance mainly depends on the texture of surface finishing, not the raw material-metal or plastic. And in the RoHS six toxic materials will not only cause environmental pollution, more easily absorbed by the body, and may have carcinogenic risk. But for the manufacturing process will be due to increased burden of environmental protection manufacturing costs, will also affect the overall price of the product. Product designers will focus on environmental protection, low manufacturing costs, the era of high texture and create the overall texture will be more challenging.
