Writers, artists and musicians explored their personal emotions in their books, art works and musical compositions, and further developed a special esthetics that emphasizes on expressing personal emotions. Franz Schubert (1797-1828) expressed his inner feelings through both his Lieder and instrumental compositions. His ”Fantasie for Piano and Violin, D. 934”, is an excellent representation of Schubert’s personal feelings on Lieder and instrumental music. This fantasie was not well received at the premiere and had not generated good reviews since then. Yet, if one explores its content deeply, it can be seen that Schubert carefully combined the poetic meaning and form of the poem “Sei mir gegrüsst” by Friedrich Rückert(1788-1866) with the instrumental fantasie. This kinds of compositional techniques allow the performers to let their imagination and emotions go free and thus, bring out the unique charm of this fantasie.
