Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 鋼琴合作藝術研究所 === 102 === Franz Liszt, one of the most outstanding Romantic composers in the 19th century, was also a virtuoso pianist, conductor, and litterateur. He composed over 700 works, including symphonic poems, sacred and secular choral works, songs, chamber music and piano music. Among them, Liszt composed 86 vocal works, each one unique and valuable. For instance, the original version of the Petrarch Sonnets which includes five versions, was first composed for tenor and piano. Later, it was transcribed into piano versions and was included in the Italian volume of Années de pèlerinage.
This article is divided into four parts to analyze three Petrarch Sonnets for tenor and piano: the first part, focuses on the introduction of Liszt’s works within different life periods and the concept behind his compositions; the second part includes information of Petrarch’s life career, analyses of the structure of his poems, and the compositional background of the work ; the third part is the study of the forms of the three Petrarch Sonnets and the discussion of the connection between the poems and the songs; the last part is the conclusion of summarizing the elements of the composition and the interpretation of the performance.
