Roadway is one sort of the major infrastructure in our daily lives, and arguably, the most frequently used one. However, in Taiwan, the public has long complained of the bad quality of the road-paving. A bumpy road could easily cause harm to the driver/pedestrian who uses it, and therefore has become the major reason for state compensation since always. Accordingly, the government put forward the policy of Road-Smoothing Project in 2008. In expectation of increasing road safety and ensuring the construction quality, have we seen significant improvement since then?
My film, Bumpy Road, Come to Report, is organized in the following five aspects. Through 1) citizen’s participation and observation, 2) the sufferers’thoughts in the compensation case, 3) an experienced reporter’s testimony, 4) vision of policy-enhancing people for Common Duct Act., and 5) potential ways for the citizen to monitor in the future. Trying to figure out the answers via camera, I, as a documentary filmmaker, want to highlight prevailing convenience of mobile phone camera on hand as well. There are increasing opportunities for each one of us to integrate into/interact with rising plural media/platforms. By means of combing varied resources—photo and videos, to name just two of them, I look forward to more ways of (re-)presenting and document filmmaking.
