Summary: | 碩士 === 臺北醫學大學 === 醫務管理學研究所 === 102 === The objective of this research consists in establishing the managers’ leadership style and how it impacts on subordinates’ job satisfaction at Shuang Ho and Armed Forces General Hospitals in Taiwan. This research was guided by the following questions: 1) What are the leadership characteristics of the managers of the two Hospitals? 2) What determines goodness and fit between a manager’s leadership style and employees’ job satisfaction? and, 3) What are the determinants of job satisfaction that have more impact on subordinates?
This study was designed as a Basic Interpretive Qualitative approach which main objective was to get a better understanding about this topic through first-hand experience, truthful reporting, and quotations of actual conversations. The sample population consisted of two managers and seven employees. Interviews results showed that managers have consultative leadership style; this positive and collaborative style demonstrated to create a positive work environment for subordinates. Therefore, employees claimed to be satisfied in their work.
The results also showed that subordinates generally expect to receive more autonomy and freedom to make more decisions in their job. They also value a leader who can make clear and consistent decisions while considering their opinions involved. In terms of the factors that increase subordinates’ job satisfaction. It was observed that most employees feel more satisfied when they are compensated with extra bonus and extra payment, while other employees feel that the promotion and recognition increased their personal and professional satisfaction.
