Especially, electric vehicle applications with limited space require smaller volume of motors, higher power density and easier to set up cooling systems. This study proposed a 6/13 three-phase outer-rotor permanent magnet flux switching motor for wheelchair. The outer-rotor configuration is a good candidate for the wheel applications. Beside, the permanent magnets are located in the stator, then the heat from the motor operation can be easily removed by cooling systems. This is desirable for the electric vehicle applications where the ambient temperature of the motor is quite high. The motor will be analyzed and designed to achieve high performance of torque density/ or power density, cogging torque, back EMF and, harmonics. Beside to improve the electric drive efficiency, the mechanical transmission will be eliminated by embedding the motor directly in the wheel. The objectives of this study are: • Determine requirements by analyzing the motion of wheel chair • Determine an initial configuration base on finite element analysis • Improvement of the initial design • Comparison of 6/13 poles motor and 12/22 poles motor .
