The test was based on English Competence Indicators of Grade 1-9 Curriculum. Question types were mainly adopted from the English listening tests of Comprehensive Assessment Program for junior high school students, and the Elementary Level of GEPT. By using diverse kinds of question types, students are provided with different levels of listening comprehension exercises; meanwhile students' English listening ability can be more extensively examined. Also, the computerized adaptive test (CAT) selects questions based on the student’s level of ability. CAT can accurately estimate students’ ability, save testing time, and reduce not only the burden but the mistakes of teachers' marking. There are two stages in this research. The first stage is to develop an English listening computerized test for junior high school students. The second stage is to analysis test items after the assessment and to evaluate the effectiveness of simulating an computerized adaptive test (CAT). The results of this study are as follows: 1.The Cronbach’s alpha value in the test was 0.885 that shows the test contents have the remarkable content reliability. 2.Analyzing items with IRT 3PL model, the average index of discrimination, difficulty and pseudo-guessing are appropriate. 3.Moreover, according to the simulation research on different ability estimation methods of applying CAT, the expected a posteriori (EAP) estimation was the most effective method with which more question numbers and testing time in this study could be retrenched.
