The purpose of this study to investigate the changes from 2007 to 2011 population trends, distribution of clinical specialty, outpatient medical cost situation and related factors by preschool children and adolescents with autism under 18 years in Taiwan. Method: This study used secondary data, and use of National Health Insurance database (NHI). NHI beneficiary with ICD-9-CM coding former three yards for '299' was defined as autistic persons in this descriptive. And use of SPSS version 18.0 statistical research and analysis. Results: Results of the average number of visits for Autism is 4.8 ± 10.6 ~ 6.4 ± 12.6 times per person, in which the average number of visits for rehabilitation utilization 16.1 ± 18.6 ~ 21.2 ± 22.1 times per person. In terms of medical costs, the average annual medical costs for 9,026.9 ± 25,870 ~ 13,298.4 ± 34,260.9 yuan; average annual medical costs of rehabilitation utilization is 35,028.6 ± 45,506.7 ~ 49,113.9 ± 59,821.0 yuan. Rehabilitation utilization or not mainly by using of age, intelligent obstacles, copayment of variable circumstances. Conclusion: Autism is a type of early detection and early diagnosis. Moreover part of autism can be accomplished by treatment, rehabilitation, training and special education, to improve their social function, to keep them meaningful work. Therefore, growth in the number of rehabilitation, we can see the importance of rehabilitation for autism. Implementation of NHI, for disadvantaged groups increasing the availability of medical services and accessibility. Also proved that they need more than the average person on medical resources and improve Resource assignment .
