This study focuses on the association between types of physician burnout (i.e., personal, work-related, and client-related burnout) and self-assessed possible subsequent effects. Hopefully, the results can show the prevalence and patterns of physician burnouts, as well as their association with future effects. Methods: A cross-sectional, structured self-administered questionnaire was designed, targeting any convenient and available physicians working in 3 major hospitals (i.e., a regional hospital, a psychiatric hospital and a district hospital) in Nantou County. A total of 101 employed physicians were surveyed from 15, Feb, 2014 till 15, April, 2014, with 90% response rate. The contents of the questionnaire include the basic information of physicians, Fatigue Scale (i.e., the Chinese version of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory, C-CBI), self-assessed physical and mental condition (i.e., BSRS-5), the levels of fatigue effects assessment, and the future help and needs assessment. The SPSS ver.15.0 software was employed to proceed the descriptive and referent analyzes. Results: The prevalence rate of Non-surgeon physician burnout is higher than that of surgeons in both work-related burnout, and client-related burnout. Physicians suffered from work-related burnout will affect their physical (OR=1.095) and mental (OR=1.124) health in the coming year, while physicians suffered from client-related burnout will affect their quality of work performance (OR=1.062) in the coming year. In addition, Physicians self-assessed poor mental health (i.e., BSRS-5 score range from 6 to 9) will significantly affect their working efficiency (OR=0.103) in the coming year. Conclusions: In addition to appropriate sleeping hours and self-adjusting capacity on physical and mental states, physicians in Nantou County desire more economic secure, supportive, and trustful working environment from stakeholders (i.e., employers, Government, and patients).
