According to the characteristic of nature image, the proposed method adopts a wave strategy to generate the differences of neighboring pixels. The stego image is generated by adopting the histogram shifting strategy. Because the property of histogram modification based data hiding technique, the embedding capacity is highly related to the total number of the peak in the histogram. Huang and Chang proposed a hierarchical-based reversible data embedding method [1], which set a base pixel to generate the difference between the based pixel and its neighboring pixels. After several levels embedding latter, their proposed method can embed a lot of secret bits into the stego image with imperceptive visual quality. However, Hang and Chang’s method can further be improved. We inspired from Huang and Chang’s method to design a novel data hiding method for improving the embedding capacity with acceptable visual quality of stego image. The main idea of the proposed wave-based data embedding method is to generate the differences between neighboring pixels. From the experimental results, the proposed method has better performance than Huang and Chang’s method in terms of the embedding capacity.
