Summary: | 碩士 === 亞洲大學 === 社會工作學系 === 102 === More and more elderly people living in the institution, therefore, quality of homes for the elderly are concerned recently. According to the statistics of Ministry of Health and Welfare(2013), there were 1044 homes for elderly in Taiwan in 2013 in which there were 974 residential care homes. Most of elderly living in these homes were because of physical, psychological or family reasons. This research was to deal with those elderly living in residential homes from two public/voluntary organizations. It was to explore the correlation between the parent-child relationship and residents’ happiness. Purposes: The purposes of the research were stated as follows: 1. To explore the situation of residents’ interaction of parent-child relationship; 2. To explore the residents’ happiness in residential homes; 3. To explore the correlation between the parent-child relationship and residents’ happiness. Methods: A social general survey was conducted in these two homes. Questionnaire was designed and its reliability and validity was tested as well. Elderly people married with children were sampled and interviewed. Findings and suggestions: 1. More parent-child activities in homes are needed in order to promote their relationships. 2. Make residents find positive parent-child relationship is also important. 3. Improve quality services from ‘top-down’ to ‘bottom-up’ in order to promote personal happiness is suggested. 4. Enforce religious counseling in order to promote residents’ life integrity is needed. 5. It is important to advocate a home sweet home in the institutions, in order to promote residents’ identification to them. 6. Make more opportunities to recover parent-child relationship are also recommended.7. Enhance the training of professional caregivers in care.
