By analyzing how the participants improved in the study group and the reflection of the researcher. This study aims at the following goals: 1. To understand the object and development of Tzu Chi community study group. 2. To discuss the course design of teaching Sutra of Immeasurable Meaning and the implementation of creative thinking teaching, further analyze the instruction process and adjust strategies along the way. 3. To analyze participants’ improvements on three morals: Virtues, Preaching, and Ten Merits when studying Sutra of Immeasurable Meaning. 4. To reflect the researcher’s self-growth in the action research process. Action research was adopted as the method in this study. The research took place at Tzu Chi Youg Ho office. Participants were a hundred students in the Tzu Chi community study group. The teaching content of the study group is three chapters in Sutra of Immeasurable Meaning: Virtues, Preaching, and Ten Merits. Creative thinking teaching lesson plan was conducted in each guided reading activity. After the activities, the research data was collected through questionnaires for participants, self-reflection notes by the researcher, observation records on the activities, and interview reports. The data was classified and coded for analysis. Triangulation was used to sustain the reliability and validity of the data. The results are as follows: 1. The objective of the foundation of Tzu Chi community study group is to purify people’s mind and invite more volunteers. The purpose is to put Buddha into practice in order to create a harmony in society and to preserve the Dharma lineage in order to further promote Tzu-Chi. 2. Suitable course design for Tzu-Chi’s Sutra of Immeasurable Meaning community study group should focus on several points: clearly IV guided-reading on the texts, using multimedia materials to echo the meaning of the texts, using creative thinking repeatedly, combining daily events with the texts in group discussions, simple design on learning sheets because they are important records for students’ development. 3. Study group on the Sutra of Immeasurable Meaning enables participants to gain more intelligence, find their way of life, and define life in a larger scale when reading the Virtues chapter, to face things more rationally and treat people or things in a different way when reading the Preaching chapter; they can learn about love, compassion, sympathetic joy, and sacrifice, carry out the Bodhisattva Acts, and turn worries into Bodhi happiness, walking the Bodhisattva Path. 4. When conducting action research, the researcher can adjust the course design according to students’ needs at any time and carry out creative thinking teaching in every dimension. The study suggested that 1. Instructors should go back and check the course design on a regular basis, adjust strategies for guiding students. They have to train leading students in the discussion group. They need to be trained to conduct multimedia teaching materials. Design special activities for festivals will also make the classes more attracting and flexible. 2. For future study, the results of the action research could be developed into a scale and be used to conduct quantitative studies on how each participant develop in the community study group.
