Formal teachers of elementary schools in Pingtung City were surveyed. The survey was completed by questionnaires, using the stratified proportional sampling method. A total of 308 questionnaires were issued with 96.4% return rate (297 effective and retrieved questionnaires). There were three contents in this questionnairy, including teachers’ personal information, the status and the nature of outdoor teaching, and the destination selection factors. Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 12.0 for Windows with descriptive statistics analysis, independent-sample T Test, one-way ANOVA, chi-square statistics and level of significance so on.Research results could be summarized as follows: 1.The latest outdoor teaching which were arranged in the way of “under cooperation with the teachers in the same grade” were the most common, and most of the destinations were “outside this county.” As to the familiarity with the destinations, “ Teachers have been to the destination and collected relevant information.” ranked the highest. Most outdoor teaching were held as “one-day” ones. Student fees for field trips generally fell between NTD$201 to NTD$500. The main teaching method for outdoor teaching was “local tour guides narrating.” The nature of outdoor teaching for students is mainly “learning activities at social education institutions”.The results showed that the means of all variables among destination selection factors were higher than the median value of 4. “safety” got the highest and “teachers' ability” got the lowest. 2.The gender of teachers, the grade which teachers taught, the numbers of students in the class, and the school scale had significant difference on the nature of implement outdoor teaching. 3.The gender of teachers, the numbers of students in the class existed in significant difference on the destination selection factors of outdoor teaching. 4.As to the destination selection factors of outdoor teaching, there was significant difference on location, the familiarity with the destinations, time, student fees, the teaching methods, the nature of activity and so on.
