碩士 === 東吳大學 === 社會學系 === 102 === Abstract In the past days, marriage is not only an important issue for the couple but also for the whole family. Due to the continuous change of criteria for choosing a spouse and marriage culture, this phenomenon has gradually changed into personal issue which makes women have more personal autonomy and decision making power in the marriage. However, with the improvement of women’s education level, financial ability and quality of life, the traditional thinking that ideal marriage is women are inferior to men is reducing gradually. The benefits women get from the marriage will decrease when the criteria of women are increasing relatively, which makes people hard to find the match one. The research used semi-structure in-depth interview, through oral communication to let interviewer and interviewee can exchange opinions deeply and understand whether mature and unmarried urban women on different living conditions and backgrounds will have different attitude toward marriage and mating preference. The research results indicate that mature and unmarried urban women have passive attitude toward marriage but they are still willing to enter into marriage. The reason is that they feel self-abased indistinctly because of the increasing age, but still reluctant to lower criteria of mating preference. Their passive attitude toward choose a spouse leads mature and unmarried urban women to delay the time to enter marriage. Keywords: marital attitude, mating preference, mature and unmarried women
